Glider Golf Event 2018

Glider Golf 2018

Guys…………If you weren’t there this past Saturday, here’s a brief re-cap, along a few shots from our Annual Glider Golf Event, held this past Saturday at Cain Country Club.

It was quite warm as four of Cain’s best approached the first tee……Jim Troxell had his faithful “Mini Bird of Time” charged and ready…………Jim Donohoe had his “Libelle” charged and ready…………….Mark Slama had his “Whipit” charged and ready………..and Dave Reynolds had his “Slice” DLG…..well……..at least, ready………

With just enough for one fore-some, the guys were off the first tee by 10:30.

As we watched the four move from hole to hole, it was becoming quite evident that these guys had done this before…..and they were doing quite well once again.

Jimmy T, with his tried-and-true Mini Bird, made it through all nine holes without a single mis-hap, and shot a respectable 46 to finish in third place. Likewise, Mark Slama, with another Brand New Whipit ( Mark holds the Club record on how many Whipits he’s gone through…….), did a very commendable job of navigating the course, error-free, as well, and chalked up a memorable 34 to finish in second place.

However, and at the Annual Glider Golf Event, there are usually a few “howevers…..”, Jim Donohoe and his LIBELLE were having a few radio problems……so much so that Jim actually ‘scratched’…….twice……..and returned…………. twice…………however, radio/servo/mixing issues were just too much to sort out in the ‘Heat Of Battle”, and Jim headed to the Clubhouse before he got in his nine holes, and so, ended with a ‘scratch’.

Big surprise came when Dave Reynolds lost control after another terrific toss of his SLICE, as his ship suddenly experienced a very rough landing……..rough enough to actually break the wing in half ! Turns out, the receiver battery pooped out at a bad time, causing the crash. No problem, as Dave went into the clubhouse, got a back-up ship and finished with the record-setting score of 20 !!

A quick look at Dave’s scorecard showed that he had four 3s, three 2s……and TWO, Holes-In-One………..one of which was on the seventh, and longest of the three holes.

And so, once again, the Title goes to Dave Reynolds, with his record score of 20.

Congratulations were in order, as Your’s Truly presented Dave with the much-coveted Award Plaque, as he, AGAIN, took Top Honors in this timely, classic battle at Cain Country Club.

So…..plan now, to join us in July of next year, as top “Glider Golfers” from all over (Murrysville ??) battle it out at the beautiful Cain Country Club !

Peace,

Nice job Dave…….and a new course record.
